The INBDE exam is the newly refashioned examination for American dental licensure. The “I” in INBDE is part of the new exam name. It stands for, Integrated as the INBDE exam has replaced both, Part I and Part II of the prior National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) examinations.
The revamped INBDE examination now consists of 500 questions, compared to a total of 900 questions on the NBDE Part I and Part II. This exam expects trainees to demonstrate an elevated understanding of clinical concepts and basic sciences.
Although the exam format has changed, few changes have been made to the overall content of the exam. Examinees can expect to see an emphasis on practical skills and knowledge rather than dependence on mechanical memorization and recall.
Dentists can also expect an additional focus on their decision-making skills and safety preparedness. This is a necessary expectation that all dentists should demonstrate during the professional practice of dentistry.
The INBDE is a two-day examination administered electronically. The exam is set in the following format:
Day 1: 360 test items (three sets of 100 standalone items, one set of 60 case questions)
Day 2: 140 test items (two sets of 70 case questions)
Examinees can expect to spend approximately 12 hours and 30 minutes completing both sections of the exam, including tutorials and scheduled breaks.
Successfully passing the INBDE exam opens up vast opportunities for dentists looking to take the next step in their dental careers, such as broadening their skills and training and the ability to practice within a wider market. With hard work, investing in the proper training, and practicing for this exam, earning potential has the ability to go even further. Upon passing the INBDE, dentists may gain entry into an advanced standing dental school.
After months of development and research, Prep Doctors has developed an online platform in collaboration with current practitioners and dental educators nationwide and industry experts within our community.
